Ahh! Maynardville Open-Air Festival 2024.

It was magical to be at the opening concert, tonight, January 18 at Maynardville. The season runs until February 2024.  Tonight was Rachmaninoff Rendezvous – a one off concert. Wonderful musicians – Elna van der Merwe (piano), Suzanne Martens (violin), Babette Roosenschoon (cello) and Mike Wang (piano). Mike Wang is 17! He played without sheet music. Extraordinary to watch his artistry and dynamism. He is a learner at Paarl Boys High. A treat to attend this beautiful concert.

There is more classical music from tomorrow, January 19, with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra: Timeless and Immortal. The conductor is Brandon Phillips and narrator is John Woodland.

Timeless and Immortal is on January 19, 20, 21 and the programme includes West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein), Radiohead’s Exit Music (for a Film).

Then there is Romeo & Juliet (from Jan 26), Puccini in the Park with Cape Town Opera (February 4 – one night only). A Night at the Musicals is on Sunday February 11 (one night only) and features artists like Lynelle Kenned, Minette Du Toit-Pearce and a terrific line-up.

The season wraps up with Friends in Harmony: A Choral Celebration, on Sunday February 25.
