The music store in Hillbrow, Joburg: Leonard “Lenny” Berolsky talks about the iconic Hillbrow Record Centre – the store he owned and operated from the early 60s. He says it was started in 1966 and then he says, it was opened in 1962. The Record Centre was a cultural hub in Hillbrow. It was in the basement. Exclusive Books was upstairs.
Lenny (78) – is a living legend. Lenny and I bump into each other regularly but we haven’t documented our conversations. Then on Thursday, March 28, 2019, I asked if we could film our chat and he gave me the go ahead and here it is. This video was filmed off-the-cuff. Un-curated.
