The 3rd Annual KLASSIEKE KOELKAMERS in collaboration with Strandloper Boutique Hotel – Paternoster

June 15 – 18, 2023 (Youth Day weekend)

It’s secret season in Paternoster which means it’s time for the return of DIE KLASSIEKE KOELKAMERS Festival. This focus festival is the idea of music impresario, Niël Rademan and the owners of Die Koelkamers, Greg Meyer and Jan Malan.

“We are now in our third year and I am sure that this accessible classical music initiative will soon become a prestigious event on the festival calendar,” says Niël Rademan.

KLASSIEKE KOELKAMERS will consist of six shows with the talents of classical and crossover musicians, Lynelle Kenned, Niël Rademan, Veronica Bell, Elna van der Merwe, West Coast Youth Orchestra led by Carina Brown as well as The Koelkamers Choir.

This small-scale festival kicks off on June 15 at 18:00 with DIE KOELKAMERS CHOIR, which consists of members of the local community in Paternoster. The choir was started in 2022 under the direction of Paternoster resident Marlene Anderson. The choir is hard at work preparing a repertoire of popular songs from the famous musicals with songs from Paint your Wagon, Evita, Carousel and Les Misérables. A portion of the proceeds go to @LexiGivesBack Animal Rescue.

BEST OF WEST COAST YOUTH ORCHESTRA is an afternoon concert and takes place on Youth Day  Jun 16. “The West Coast Youth Orchestra is a culturally diverse non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for all young musicians from the West Coast to perform music. They not only become great musicians through this program, but also become valuable members of the West Coast community. An exciting variety will be heard at this event, as well as our new Marimba Band,” says conductor Carina Brown.

The same evening (June 16) at 19:00 it is CLASSIX TO CABARET’s turn with the multi-talented Niël Rademan. Rademan takes us on a trip down memory lane through all the great songs from Classical to contemporary Cabaret accompanied by beautiful violin and viola items performed by Veronica Bell.

Saturday June 17 at 12:00 in FOCUS ON THE FIDDLE the focus falls on the violin as king of the strings. This is a performance by the fabulous Veronica Bell with beloved pianist Elna van der Merwe.

At 17:00, guests are treated to the outstanding talents of Lynelle Kenned (soprano), Niël Rademan (baritone), Elna van der Merwe (piano) & Veronica Bell (violin).

NIGHT AT THE OPERA & THE SILVER SCREEN will feature highlights from the most beautiful films and opera music used for the silver screen, such as The Godfather, The Student Prince, La Bohème, Faust by Gounod and even My Fair Lady!

Sunday morning June 18, at 12:00 we close with LYNELLE KENNED IN CONCERT.
