Cape Town Opera is presenting, Opera Blocks on March 4 and 5- two innovative events a day – at 10am and 1pm. This is opera for babies and is described as “a magical brain-boosting theatre experience for parents and babies from birth to 18 months.” Go along and enjoy the experience: “Utilising the expertise of an occupational therapist, Opera Blocks, brings music, song and play together in a calm, immersive environment that will stimulate, entertain and spark imagination in your little one and hopefully instill in them a life-long passion for opera. Come and enjoy the benefits of classical music on your child’s development at a real theatre.” Cape Town Opera’s artistic director Magdalene Minnaar has curated “a gentle programme for little ears that will include lyrical songs such as Pa pa pa (Die Zauberflöte), Ridente la Calma (Mozart), O Mio Babbino Caro (Gianni Schicchi /Puccini) and the beloved Xhosa lullaby, Thula Thula.” Cape Town Opera soloists – Brittany Smith and Ane Pretorius – will be joined by Van Wyk Venter and Alida Stoman from the company’s Young Artist Programme. The singers will be accompanied by Albert Combrink on piano.
