FOM BENEFIT GALA ON JULY 12, 2022
With the restrictions just lifted on masks and other mandates, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to present a FOM Benefit Gala with the Friends of Orchestral Music.
The concert, on July 12, 2022, at Artscape at 19:30 will be conducted by the CPO’s principal guest conductor Bernhard Gueller, and features two international stars, Dutch/English violinist, Daniel Rowland and Serbian cellist, Maja Bogdanovic. The charismatic couple will perform the Brahms Double Concerto, which is a work they both love and love especially performing it with each other.
The concert will begin with the overture from La Forza del destino by Verdi and conclude with the firecracker, the Symphony no 5 by Beethoven.
Louis Heyneman says: “This concert celebrates that we have made it through Covid, thanks to our wonderful supporters and audience members, and especially donors like Friends of Orchestral Music. “
Rowland, who was leader of the Brodsky Quartet, has had his playing acclaimed as “wonderful, ravishing in its finesse” by The Guardian. He is a highly versatile, charming and adventurous performer, with a wide-ranging repertoire. In recent seasons Daniel has performed with orchestras from Tromso in the north of Norway to this performance in Cape Town and both he and Ms Bogdanovic are performing in the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival which begins on July 1. Following her stunning recital debut at Carnegie’s Weill Hall, The Strad hailed Maja Bogdanovic for “an outstanding performance of exceptional tonal beauty and great maturity of interpretation.” Since then, she has taken her place among today’s foremost cellists performing around the world.
