Towards the end of last year [2022], Cape Town’s incredible Zip Zap Circus, launched its initiative to raise funds for its New Performance Hall. With generous contributions, the funding campaign is going well. The NPH – as it is being referred to – will be a permanent home for Zip Zap and will replace the Zip Zap Dome which is in the Founder’s Garden. The NPH will be at the main entrance of the Artscape precinct site (next to the MyCITI bus station). The design looks beautiful. I am told that the “façade is indicative of an inverted circus big top tent as well as the swing of a trapeze.  Seating will be retractable to enable to host any kind of events with an open floor.” Donations are tax deductible, so why not make a difference and get some tax benefit.

Zip Zap made a tremendous impact on its recent tour in Europe, including a season in Paris at Cirque Phénix, with its show, Rhapsody. The show- a symphonic show – ie accompanied by an orchestra and singers – wowed audiences. The tour provided Zip Zap with vital international exposure, after the lull during the pandemic, when touring came to a halt.   It will be wonderful for Zip Zap to have a stylish performance hall. A substantial slice of its income is derived from shows in its Dome. It is envisaged that the NPH will be a drawcard in further building audiences- and tourists from abroad. Zip Zap- which celebrated its 30th birthday in 2022 – is not only a circus of excellence but is also a circus for transformation. It has changed lives during its three decades on the boards and this year, 2023, we will see its new show, VOOMA!, in Cape Town. Read about the show here: Read more about the NPH:
