The Drama Factory in Somerset West has announced its autumn 2021 season –with an inspired mix of drama, comedy, music, improv and comedy. The season includes a much anticipated world première, The Unlikely Secret Agent – The Eleanor Kasrils Story (June 10-20) Paul du Toit has based and adapted the play from the Alan Paton Award winning book of the same name, by Ronnie Kasrils and is also directing. The superb cast features du Toit, Gideon Lombard, Sanda Shandu, Ntlanhla Kutu and Erika Marais. Audiences will also get the opportunity to see the brilliant Lynita Crofford in Tony Jackman’s award-winning play, An Audience With Miss Hobhouse (June 5 and 6),inspired by the remarkable life of humanist, feminist, suffragette Emily Hobhouse, who dedicated her time to drawing attention the dire circumstances of Boer women and children in concentration camps. Nik Rabinowitz will be performing, Nik Rabinowitz is Alive (May 18, 19, 20). This will be his first show at The Drama Factory, since March 2020, when lockdown brought live performance to a halt. Improguise – the improv troupe – will be getting audience back into the thrill of live performance with Game On! [May 22]. On May 30, there is music with James Marais and Monique Cassells, with A Trip Down Memory Lane – toe-tapping music from 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Some shows on the autumn season at The Drama Factory, are on for one performance only and others are on for a few days. There are also matinee shows for selected shows. The Drama Factory is known for its chilled out vibe, with on-site parking. The theatre hosts one off performances and mid-length runs and this autumn season is indicative of the passion of Sue Diepeveen, its founder to provide “quality entertainment across a range of genres in a relaxed and welcoming environment.” As per lockdown regulations, seats are limited and some houses are already sold out.
