A concert to look forward to is Terry Fortune’s  Golden Oldies Concert on the Lawn which is happening on Sunday February 15, 2026 at the Baxter. It is a wonderful way to celebrate the Valentine’s weekend with family and friends, with the legendary Terry Fortune and other veteran artists who are in their golden years. Previous Golden Oldie’s Concerts sold out at the Baxter, so bookings advised. As Fortune, says, it is more than a concert, “it is an outing”, an experience. I last attended a Golden Oldies concert in February 2025, at the Baxter and was enthralled by performers, such as Thembi Mtshali and Willie van Zyl. They will be performing at the Baxter Golden Oldies. Golden Oldies Concert on the Lawn Returns to Baxter Gardens for a Valentine’s Celebration of Music, Memory and Community.

This Valentine’s season, Golden Oldies Concert on the Lawn returns to the Baxter Theatre Gardens, inviting audiences to gather beneath one of Cape Town’s most storied trees for an afternoon of timeless music, relaxed picnicking and shared remembrance.

Founded three years ago, with Sold Out performances in Kirstenbosch Gardens, Golden Oldies was born out of a simple, but powerful idea: that great artists do not lose their value with age. At a time when seasoned performers are too often dismissed as “unmarketable,” veteran artist and producer Terry Fortune set out to challenge that narrative by restoring visibility, dignity and applause to artists many had prematurely sidelined.

Now 77 years old and still commanding the stage, Terry has produced 77 Golden Oldies shows featuring 77 artists, filling some of the city’s most prestigious venues — including Artscape — while also taking music directly to Retirement homes across the Cape, where its impact has been nothing short of transformative.

The 2026 Valentine’s edition returns to the lush Baxter Gardens, centred beneath the iconic tree that predates the theatre itself — a living symbol of endurance, heritage, growth and hope. The concert features an exceptional line-up of South African music legends: Terry Fortune, Thembi Mtshali, Leslie Kleinsmith, Don Vino Prince, Willie van Zyl and The Black Ties, hosted by much-loved audience favourites Euodia Samson and Basil Appollis.

Audiences are invited to bring their own picnic and blanket, and encouraged to include loved ones and special friends – and enjoy an evening that celebrates love in its many forms — romantic, communal and intergenerational — through songs that have stood the test of time.

Pay-it-forward – Purchase an additional ticket to gift a seat to a resident from a Retirement home.
