June 21 is International Global Awareness Day for MND/ALS (Motor Neurone Disease/Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis /Lou Gehrig’s Disease). On Tuesday June 21, 2022, opera doyenne Aviva Pelham is presenting a fundraising concert, to assist renowned Cape Town tango pioneer, Mark Hoeben, with his extensive medical and living expenses which he is facing as a result of being diagnosed (December 2020) with MND/ALS. Pelham is National Patron of MNDA South Africa and this concert is also about heightening awareness and raising funds for research, treatment, and ultimately, a cure for this devastating disease.
For Music for Mark- Tango, Broadway and More, Aviva Pelham will be joined by singers Sipho Fubesi, Louise Howlett, Melikhaya Ndabeni and Sihle Mtitshana. They will be accompanied by pianists Stefan Lombard and Albert Combrink. The tango dancers are Rodney Ehrlich and Sally Candy; Wilhelm Liebenberg and Saskia Van Rijn; James Kipling and Denise Anderson.
