The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra is wrapping up 2021 on a high note – with three concerts- which will be streamed – online. Two of the concerts celebrate youth and local artists and the third is the final Cyber Symphonies in Summer Concert. The CPO festive season concert marks the end of the pandemic year 2020, which was a very active time for the orchestra. The CPO presented more than 20 streamed symphony concerts, played with the opera and ballet companies and was involved in other concerts. Other projects include a CPO YouTube video – “to introduce the instruments of the orchestra to schools and the biggest and busiest youth education and development programme in the country.” Purchase tickets as festive season gifts- and support the CPO, its artists and outreach initiatives. The CPO Festive Season concerts- at a glance
The CPO’s youth celebration will be streamed from December 9 to 16, 2021. The Cyber Symphony will be streamed from December 16 – 20, 2021. The 2021 Community Spectacular will be streamed from December 23, 2021 to January 9, 2022.
The Youth Gala
The Youth Gala, showcases the Junior Strings – conducted by Felicia Salies Petersen; the Intermediate Strings conducted by Charlene Bogenhagen; the CP Youth Wind Ensemble conducted by Faan Malan and the CP Youth Orchestra conducted by Brandon Phillips. The Youth Gala was filmed at the City Hall on December 5, 2020. The gala underscores the levels reached by the learners over the last year. Youth development is supported by many wonderful sponsors from the Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town to many corporates, whose logos will be on the stream. The Community Spectacular
The Community Spectacular showcases amazing artists as singers Earl Gregory, Gloria Bosman, Anna Davel, Phoebe Mgxajiand Nomakrestu Xakathugaga, Zip Zap’s Phelelani Ndakrokra – flying over the audience; cellist in a bubble Carol Thorns, tenor Luvo Maranti, counter-tenor Sanele Mwelase and Elvis Sibeko’s Dance can Dance. Cyber Symphony in Summer
The final Cyber Symphony in Summer, the annual Huberte Rupert Memorial Concert, streams from December 16 – 20, 2021. Brandon Phillips is on the podium. The CPO is performing the overture to Mozart’s Impresario and Schubert Symphony no 3. Daniel Brodie, a rising star, is performing the Third Symphony by Beethoven.
