Theatre news: Fun new take on classic fave for children, The Emperor’s New Clothes at The Masque, February 2024

The Emperor’s New Clothes is very much a story for our mad times – people following others without questioning and living their lives on social media platforms such as TikTok, The Drama Factory (in the Strand) has been receiving acclaim for its revisiting of this Hans Christian Andersen classic, The Emperor’s New Clothes. In this production, His Majesty in pursuit to be the world’s leading fashion icon, “enlists the help of TikTok sensation Charlotte.” Sounds like a lot of fun. The production is touring to the Deep South of Cape Town and will be on in Muizenberg at The Masque Theatre (by the sea). There are three performances only: February9, 10 and 11, 2024, at 14h30. Fun new take on classic favourite for children – The Emperor’s New Clothes comes to The Masque

The hit new children’s show that’s been taking Cape Town by storm is coming to delight Deep South audiences!

A fun new take on The Emperor’s New Clothes, the well-loved tale by Hans Christian Andersen, comes to The Masque on February 9, 10 and 11, 2024, at 14h30.

This classic tale gets a fresh look with a distinctly South African flavour.

Presented by The Drama Factory, actors Henu Badenhorst and Jessie Diepeveen play all the various characters that take us on a journey behind the scenes at the emperor’s palace.

His Majesty is a vain man, obsessed with his looks and living a great life, he doesn’t care too much about his subjects. In his quest to be the world’s leading fashion icon, he enlists the help of TikTok sensation Charlotte. Charlie and her aged Grandad decide to trick the emperor and expose him for the world to see. Can she convince him that that she is making him a magical cloak which is only visible to clever people? Will the Emperor learn his lesson?
