When lockdown brought live performance to a halt, in February 2020, Lynelle Kenned (soprano) and Stefan Lombard (piano) hopped into new and uncharted territory with an online concert, streamed live- as opposed to being a pre-recorded concert. When lockdown was eased, and live performance was possible, as a duo, they performed extensively around the country. On Saturday – October 9 – they will be in concert at The Norval Foundation – at 5pm AND the concert will be live-streamed, through Penny Lane Studios, on Quicket. The recording will then be available for a week. Note – the booking link is the same for tickets for the concert at The Norval and for the streaming tickets. Click on “tickets” on Quicket- and you will see the option to book either for the concert at the Norval or online. Info as supplied:
Lynelle Kenned and Stefan Lombard for Norval Foundation performance on Sat 9 October 2021
This Saturday October 9, 2021 at 5pm, singer Lynelle Kenned and pianist Stefan Lombard will present a musical journey at the Norval Foundation in Tokai. This a once-off performance and will transport the audience through “the worlds of opera, traditional and contemporary art songs and melodies from the musicals. In accordance with lockdown regulations, only 60 tickets are available which makes this a very intimate recital – up close with the award winning Kenned and amazing Lombard. The programme includes popular classics and “local gems”, Handel, Mozart, Lloyd Webber. Lombard will be playing a beautiful Fazioli grand piano, sponsored by Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos.
Kenned and Lombard have been working together as duo for a long time and have been charming audiences during lockdown, at venues around the country. The collaboration between these artists, began in in 2014 with the UK tour of Cape Town Opera’s Showboat. They have worked on high profile productions such as David Kramer’s Orpheus in Africa, Valentines under the Stars, Divas Unite, Cape Philharmonic Orchestra Community Gala concerts and on popular orchestral showcases. As a duo, Kenned and Lombard have developed a diverse repertoire – geared and adapted for musical events and spaces – “soirées in private homes and fundraisers and opulent concerts performed under the stars in the Namib Desert.” With the pandemic and lockdown, with theatres shuttered, they quickly pivoted to embrace the online stage as a medium. They presented a stirring live stream show – streamed live. This was innovative as it was not pre-recorded and it inspired other artists to live stream their shows, and use the digital stage, while theatres were closed. For the concert at The Norval, they are performing live and they are streaming the show, through Penny Lane Studios.
Tickets for the Norval concert, allow for all-day access to Norval Foundation, an acclaimed centre for art and cultural expression, and dedicated to the research, education and exhibition of 20th and 21st century visual art from South Africa and beyond. Located in Steenberg, Cape Town, Norval Foundation combines the experience of art with an appreciation for nature. The Sculpture Garden, outdoor amphitheatre, purpose-built exhibition spaces and research library are situated in a unique setting that offers visitors a multisensory experience.
It is wonderful that Ian Burgess-Simpson Pianos is supplying a Fazioli piano for the concert. “Fazioli’s range of grand pianos offers the characteristics universally recognised as the most advanced and best suited for the creation of the modern concert piano, producing a powerful yet expressive sound, balanced and responsive to the pianist’s touch.”
