Sir Elton John- we love him. His songs ping as a soundtrack to many moments. The supremely talented Anton Luitingh, Amy Campbell and Tshepo Ncokoane have banded together to present, Your Song – The Music of Elton John. The premiere season is at Theatre on the Bay, from May 6-21, 2022. This is a fully kitted out production with superb artists at the helm. Christopher Dudgeon has written the script, so expect a delicious repartee on stage. Award winning Niall Griffin is doing the set, lighting and costume design. He makes magic on stage. The brilliant Duane Alexander is in the director’s seat. Love the name of the production company: Deviant Theatricals . I am already singing along. Cannot wait to see this much anticipated show. Note, that Covid seating restrictions apply and that this show is likely to sell out. The team explain what to expect:

Your Song

Oh, sure, you know who Elton John is. Who doesn’t?

If you haven’t partied late into the night to Crocodile Rock, performed I’m Still Standing, to yourself in your bedroom mirror after a god-awful week at work, or made a complete knob of yourself singing Your Song, to a stranger at a dive karaoke bar, have you even lived?

Granted, the little so-and-so’s born after 2000 think this extra (their word, not ours) old man magically came into existence when Dua Lipa ruined “Cold Heart” in 2021, but what they don’t know is that Sir John invented extra. In an era of hyperbole, when absolutely-bloody- everything is described as amazing, awesome, stunning and stellar, Elton John still manages to stick out like a sore thumb. Indeed, at 75 years old, he is the first solo artist to have top 10 singles in 6 different decades!

How can this be? Well, we intend to find out. Join us as we journey through the decades of Reginald Kenneth Dwight’s rainbow-hued, feathered, diamond encrusted and controversial life in an effort to discover what it is about the man behind the music that has made him part of the fabric of our lives, and what it is about his music that has made him one of the most successful musicians of all time.

Your Song, a musical biography as seen through the eyes of kindred spirits who have heard the siren call of a unique voice echoing down the passage of time, is a loving tribute to a master of his genre, the likes of which we will never see again, and an uplifting tale of what can be achieved when the odds are stacked against you from the very beginning.

This is Elton John we’re talking about, ladies and gents, so expect the unexpected! Except the expected playlist of his most exceptional songs… You can expect those.

Your Song features hits such as Your Song, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocket Man, I’m Still Standing and Can You Feel the Love Tonight? Bookings through Computicket and the theatre box office.
