About Sugar-daddy Theatre Company
This innovative independent theatre company was established in 2010 by Marlisa Doubell, Lizanne Peters and others. Yup, 2020 marks its 10th anniversary. The company nabbed the People’s Choice Fleur du Cap Theatre Award in 2013. Its ethos is about making theatre happen. The company seeks funders to assist with production costs to pay for rights of plays; to pay actors a decent salary, to pay for set, design- the whole caboodle. Theatre is not a cheap undertaking. This approach has enabled the company to stage plays like Blueberry Toast by US writer Mary Laws. The production was first staged in a pop-up theatre at the Foundry, De Waterkant in December 2018 and the following year at Artscape. This make-it-happen approach is going to be critical when the pandemic eases and live performance can resume. Many theatres will probably be closed – some forever. Who you gonna call? Call Sugar-daddy Theatre Company to find a space and produce.
