This is a quickie review. I urge you to click in to the digital stage and not to miss this beautiful concert. I was overcome – once again –watching the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra – in its online season. The Summer Cyber Symphony series runs March 25 to April 15, 2021. This concert – no 3- features soloists Petrus Coetzee (viola) and Gabriele von Dürckheim (flute). The conductor is Jeremy Silver. Concert 3 is streaming from today – April 8 – until Monday April 12. Watching the orchestra, masked, during this time, still makes me reel in wonder. There they are, musicians making music in the time of Rona. All of the musicians, besides the wind players are masked. In each concert, there is footage with artists talking about their music. In this concert, Petrus Coetzee, reflects that it will be a concert to remember, for him, or words to that effect. I was so emotional – again – that I could not grasp it all.
The digital stage has its issues. Last week, for concert 2, I had no internet on Thursday night and patchy access on the weekend with buffering. Tonight, there were no issues and I sat with earphones, immersed in the music: Concertino for Viola, Flute and Chamber Orchestra by Stefans Grové, The Magic Flute by Mozart and the Symphony No. 2 by Beethoven.
Concert no 4, streams from next Thursday- April 15-19, 2021– Piano Concert No. 20, K466 (Mozart), features South African pianist, Esthea Kruger, who has an international reputation in Europe, particularly in Germany. The programme also includes Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. Bernhard Gueller will be conducting. Do not miss. Book at Quicket.
