Goldfish played at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts on Sunday, December 29, 2024. The concert was sold out, with people streaming in well into the start of the concert. The acoustic duo comprised Dominic Peters and David Poole, is based in the USA but the South African born artists are here for our summer, touring the concert circuit. They told us that it was their 15th season at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts. Guests at the concert were Emily Bruce and Sakhile Moleshe.
The concert started with one of my fave Goldfish songs, If Summer was a Sound and included hits and newer songs. I wanted them to play their 2013 song, One Million Views with the stirring lyrics:

So true. Most people at the concert had their phones out, filming as they danced, hoping to post and maybe get one million views on TikTok. The video app was launched in 2016. Perhaps Goldfish need to update the lyrics – to one billion views. Talking of phones, it was impressive to see the security in full force at the concert. I saw security personnel and marshals asking people to please mind their phones. The venue can hold 6 000 people and while one must be vigilant at all times, it is reassuring to see a robust security presence.
The Goldfish concert, was as always, a sensation. Most of the crowd was on its feet, dancing and singing. Picnics were forgotten. The energy at Goldfish concerts is infectious. As always, I was amazed at the youth of some of the fans – six and seven year olds with their parents – singing along to all the songs. The sale of merch was on full speed. I was intrigued to see the Goldfish memorabilia, collected by fans, over the years, like peek hats, autographed by the band and guest artists. See pic.
Radio presenter, Guy McDonald was the MC of the Goldfish concert and the crowd was treated to a his shtick as he went through the house rules for the concerts at Kirstenbosch. Not only did he convey the rules (such as no smoking or vaping, no walking around with drinking vessels made from glass), he was hilarious, putting on delicious accents. This was pure stand-up comedy. Tonight at Kirstenbosch, December 31, 2024, for the NYE’s concert, Will Linley and Lloyiso will be on stage. Note: Gates open at 18:00. Concert starts at 19:00.
