Quickie review: Do not miss this exquisitely performed tribute to the queen of comebacks, Judy Garland. This show has been staged at the Umtiza and Hilton Festivals and has received a Standard Bank Ovation Award at the vNAF. Kerry Hiles voices the pain and yearning of Garland through her songs and in between, she narrates snippets about the singer’s life. It was a life filled with disappointments in terms of husbands and relationships. Her manager fleeced her. At the end, she relied on the kindness of friends and slept on their couches.
The signature Garland song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow has become a standard of lockdown concerts and it is wonderful to hear it being sung by this accomplished singer. Lovely accompaniment at the piano by Liz Campbell. The film recording quality is great. A treat of a show. Tickets only R25. Don’t miss.
