Following on its successful Summer Cyber Symphony season, the Cape Town Philharmonic will host its Autumn Cyber Symphony season from May 20 until June 7, 2021. There are three concerts in the autumn season. Each concert live streams at 8pm on Thursday nights – from May 20. Concerts are available from the Thursday start date, until 8pm on the Monday night, following the live stream. The concerts are going out as recordings and include short inserts – with reflections by soloists and Bernhard Gueller- the conductor of the series. Bernhard Gueller who is principal guest conductor of the CPO, has accompanied many renowned singers on the international concert circuit, such as Pretty Yende, Elza van den Heever, Jane Archibald and the late Johan Botha. Gueller is also Music Director Laureate of Symphony Nova Scotia. His CD, featuring Canadian singer, Sarah Slean has been nominated for two prestigious Canadian awards – the Juno and the East Coast . Soloist William Berger [concert 1], was a member of the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has sung in major opera houses in Europe. Last year [2020], he performed in Cape Town Opera’s La Bohème, in Cape Town. Nina Schumann [soloist, concert 2] is one of South Africa’s successful pianists and is highly regarded for her innovative programming. This concert in the autumn series, was planned for August 2020, to mark her 50th birthday. In concert 3, Bernhard Gueller will conduct “works that showcase the various sections in orchestrations of diverse colours that allow the musicians to shine.”
