There is tremendous excitement in anticipation of VOOMA!, the new stage show by South Africa’s Zip Zap Circus which will be on over two weekends – May 27 and 28 and June 3 and 4, 2023, in the Zip Zap Dome, in the Artscape Theatre precinct. The show follows the rapturous reception that Zip Zap received during its recent tour of Rhapsody, in Europe, which included a season in Paris at the famous Cirque Phénix. Zip Zap played to 400 000 people and the show was televised. The new show VOOMA! Is directed by Zip Zap co-founder, Brent van Rensburg and it is an opportunity for Cape Town audiences to show its support for the incredible Zip Zap. Van Rensburg says that VOOMA! Is a “fast-paced action filled circus show for all ages”. He is directing and chorography is by Adele Blank.
In line with the title of the show, VOOMA!, audiences can expected an up-beat and playlist, with “good vibes”, reflects van Rensburg. For those readers out of South Africa, who are not familiar with the term, ‘vooma”, it is a term which resonates and is emblematic of energy, positivity and amazing vigour. It is taking energy, upbeat, vitality and bundling them, beyond expectations. This is what Zip Zap is about. Its circus artists do not simply reach for the barre for example in juggling and aerial acts but they imbue everything with extraordinary verve and energy. Zip Zap has vooma and now- there is VOOMA- the show. What can audiences expect in VOOMA!, which is a new Zip Zap innovation? “New acts include a double strap act, rolla bolla act, comedy acrobatic bench and so much more- you have to come and see,” enthuses van Rensburg.
VOOMA! Features young performers from the advanced Zappers and Dare2Dream programmes. The Zappers “focuses on imparting high-level; circus expertise to youth with exceptional talent.
