Breath and Hammer Acoustic – fundraiser for the STAND Foundation
Grammy-nominated clarinettist and innovative pianist, composer and producer Kathleen Tagg unite for a once-off fundraiser concert that celebrates music as a force for human connection. Breath & Hammer Acoustic is an intimate, unplugged programme at the crossroads of classical, klezmer, world music and improvisation.
Showcasing their unorthodox, virtuosic playing at close quarters, the duo reimagines traditional tunes, global composer works and originals shaped by jazz, minimalism and symphonic colour. A passionate and deeply personal musical encounter that transcends style and culture. The concert is in aid of the Sustaining Theatre and Dance Foundation.
Taking place on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at the Baxter Concert Hall, this intimate, genre-defying performance brings together world music, classical influence and bold improvisation in a once-off fundraising concert in support of the STAND (Sustaining Theatre and Dance) Foundation.
“A musical journey you have never travelled before…”
“What we’re doing is melodic and instantly accessible to anyone who comes”…
ABOUT STAND Foundation:
STAND is an independent, non-profit, public benefit organisation dedicated to strengthening contemporary South African theatre and dance. It was created by practitioners within the sector in response to the real challenges faced by artists, producers, technicians and organisations working in theatre and dance today. Its purpose is to help build a healthier, more sustainable ecosystem in which creative work can thrive.
Funds raised through this event will support STAND’s work to develop a shared vision for the future of South African theatre and dance, provide financial and practical support to practitioners and projects, and strengthen the infrastructure that underpins the sector. STAND encourages collaboration between individuals and organisations, and delivers training and capacity-building programmes that help artists and cultural workers adapt, survive and grow.
By supporting this fundraiser, you are contributing to the long-term wellbeing of theatre and dance practitioners, helping to ensure that South African performance continues to be created, shared and celebrated, now and into the future.
