Preview: LAMTA’S acclaimed, Come Together/The Beatles Covered /Uncovered returns to Cape Town stage, Theatre on The Bay in Camps Bay, February 2023

I saw LAMTA’s Come Together/The Beatles Covered /Uncovered, in June 2022 at Theatre on The Bay. I was bowled over by the production which is framed around an intriguing conceptual arc- covers of songs by the Beatles – well-known and less known. Each song has been choreographed by renowned South African choreographers. The mood and vibe of each number varies – celebratory, reflective, poignant and fun. It is high energy, uplifting and utterly entertaining as one become immersed in the song and sensational dance. I remarked in my review from June 2022, that it is like watching: The Beatles- the musical. This production goes beyond an assemblage of songs and dance. Each song tells a story – through music, lyrics, movement and costumes/design. After the June 2022 success in Cape Town, this remarkable production toured to Joburg, November 2022, and was staged at Teatro Montecasino. Shows sold out, with people clamouring for more seats. Yes, the music of the Beatles is timeless and resonates with people of all ages but beyond that, LAMTA’s Anton Luitingh and Duane Alexander have created a stand-out show – with exceptional choreography, dancing by LAMTA students (difficult to believe that they are students), awesome set design, lighting and costumes. It is a show to see more than once.  And yes, there is a generator at Theatre on The Bay, so get out of the dark at home, head for Theatre on the Bay and let the light shine in, with this superlative production.
