Music festival preview: Soulful Sundowners, Stellenbosch, South Africa, December 19, 20, 2020

It is happening! In the year of Covid-19, s happening over the weekend of December 19 and 20, 2020. This is the 2^nd edition of this festival which was extremely popular at the launch in 2019. The producers is LRI Productions. The CEO, Lyle Ryan, is a music lover and enjoys music shows and events. He says: “LRI Productions is a new kid on the block.” After watching his good friend and brother from another mother ‘Gavin Maralack’ play at his house with some of his friends. He decided that “more should be done to give them an opportunity to showcase more of themselves.” He adds: “Four weeks after that we put together our very 1st show.” Living in uncertain and tenuous times, during the pandemic, live events need to be put together with precision and swiftly. LRI Productions has made it happen Ryan: “We decided to go ahead in November [2020] with the event, after finding a great space in Stellenbosch. The line-up is tops and we will still be adding two more acts.” Limited numbers may be accommodated- according to Covid regulations, so bookings advisable as this is half the amount of people that would normally be able to attend. Ryan explains: “We are expecting to have 400 people per day. People will be widely put with space between everyone. We have taken all measures to ensure this takes place. We have hired a number of safety officers to ensure that this happens.” Outdoor events are very cool for these pandemic times. Book before the festival sells out.

The festive season is officially underway and the hotly-anticipated two-day annual musical concert showcase, SOULFUL SUNDOWNERS, is back with a fresh new line-up of top South African musicians and DJs – set to deliver the best of Cape Town entertainment on stage.

The SOULFUL SUNDOWNERS Music Festival is a guaranteed weekend of fun and entertainment for the whole family set to take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December 2020.

Brought to you by the LRI Productions, the Van Der Stel Sports Club in Stellenbosch will be transformed to accommodate an outdoor live music festival like no other this summer season.

Well-loved local and national artists will grace the stage, while lovers of music and the outdoors enjoy the tunes and the summer sun.

Confirmed acts for the concert line-up are: The Black Ties; Chad Saaiman & Kerwin; Jesmoné; Jarrad Ricketts; August West; Spinksie “Sparkel” (from Maak My Famous fame), Janice; DJ Mickz and Tye Platinum.

For Lyle Ryan, CEO of LRI Productions, he hopes the music festival becomes an annual phenomenon with Cape Town audiences.“This is our second year hosting such a high-calibre music festival and we hope it resonates with Capetonians as the go-to summer festival each year. It’s a perfect way to spend time with the family while celebrating some of SA’s top local musicians in action on stage.”

Soulful songstress, Janice, says she’s excited to perform at the festival.

“After hearing the line-up for Soulful Sundowners, I couldn’t resist the offer, these are some of my favourite local artists in SA. “

Fellow musician Chad Saaiman, shares Janice’s excitement in taking to the stage after the COVID-19 pandemic has not allowed for many music events to take place this year.

“Fans can expect some happy vibes and some of my most familiar tunes to sing along to. This year has been something else so let’s end it in a celebratory fashion.”

According to festival organizer, Ryan, the event will cater to the entire family, including having various food trucks, family activities, and picnic spots on offer.

“We want the entire family to spend the day with us in Stellies so we are going to ensure that each person is catered to, so that they walk away with the best festival experience Cape Town has to offer right now,”

Janice says she urges music fans to come out and support the local music industry.

“For us as musicians, we are so excited to get back into live audience performances and to be able to exchange energies with real people and not just a camera audience for once. Most of all, it’s been a tough year for everyone, so come and enjoy this festival with us, because we all deserve to celebrate life and great music that feeds our souls,” she says.
