Cape Town Welcomes ACDC Dance Intersect 2025

A cultural convergence of movement and meaning โ€“Artscape October 2- 4 2025

Cape Town is gearing up to pulse to the rhythm of a global dance dialogue as ACDC Dance Intersect 2025  takes centre stage in early October. A cross-cultural celebration of classical and contemporary ballet, this landmark event brings together international and South African dance companies for an unforgettable series of performances from October 2-4 at Artscape Theatre.

At the heart of Dance Intersect 2025 is a spirit of artistic exchange, with this yearโ€™s event bringing the Greek National Opera Ballet to South African soil for the first time, alongside acclaimed choreographers and companies from the Netherlands, Brazil, and across Africa.

Produced by South Africaโ€™s own Elvis Sibeko, Dance Intersect 2025 is an initiative by internationally acclaimed choreographer Anderson Carvalho, the Netherlands-based founder of Anderson Carvalho Dance and Choreography (ACDC), and transcends borders to unite audiences and artists alike through the universal language of dance.

โ€œDance Intersect is not just a performance – it’s a meeting point for cultures, ideas, and bodies in motion,โ€ says Anderson Carvalho, whose choreography fuses his Brazilian roots with classical and contemporary forms. โ€œWe are here to spark new conversations through movement, the cross-pollination of dance techniques, stories and conversations, and to show whatโ€™s possible when we listen to each other through art.โ€

Each year, ACDC Dance Intersect finds its home in Cape Town, a city steeped in layered cultural history and pulsing with creative energy, an ideal canvas for such collaborations. Audiences can look forward to a rich and diverse repertoire, ranging from neoclassical pieces and Afro-contemporary fusions to avant-garde ballet that explores themes of identity, transformation, and unity.

Producer Elvis Sibeko, known for blending traditional African storytelling with modern performance, adds: โ€œThis is a moment of pride for South African dance. Weโ€™re not only sharing our stories but expanding our artistic vocabulary through working with world-class performers. Itโ€™s a new chapter for cultural exchange on the continent.โ€

Programme highlights include:

  • The South African premiere of Fragmented Landscape, a bold co-production between ACDC and Dutch company DOX, choreographed by Anderson Carvalho, featuring a diverse ensemble of South African and international dancers.
  • A debut South African performance by the Greek National Opera Ballet, bringing classical excellence and Mediterranean artistry to the Cape Town stage.
  • A moving and contemporary showcase by Cape Townโ€™s New World Dance Theatre.
  • A brand-new choreographic work by Guest Choreographers Chesney Stanfield and Emile Petersen, exploring fresh narratives through innovative movement.

Beyond the stage, ACDC Dance Intersect 2025 will host open rehearsals, public masterclasses, and school outreach sessions – bringing young dancers, students, and dance lovers closer to the process of creation and the power of collaboration.

Dance Intersect 2025 is also proudly supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (under Dutch development policy), Tristan Finance, the Van Ewijck foundation, and the Embassy of Spain in South Africa.

Whether you’re a devoted dance aficionado, a curious newcomer, or someone simply seeking an inspiring night out to meet new people, or to explore a different paradigm, ACDC Dance Intersect 2025 offers a rare opportunity to be a part of the global heartbeat of dance in the Mother City.

Tickets available through Webtickets or via Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695 from R150 โ€“ R400 per person.
