The Fleur du Cap Theatre award winning A&M Productions (Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer) is again staging Canal Walk Children’s Theatre’s popular winter production. The 2023 production is- Alice in Wonderland. The cast is headed up by FDC winner Isabella Jane. Read on for more. Info supplied:

Alice in Wonderland at Canal Walk’s Children’s Theatre, from June 24 – July 16, 2023, is the perfect way to get the whole family excited about theatre!


Enjoy a unique musical adaptation of Lewis Caroll’s classic tale in a vibrant venue, featuring captivating costumes and performances for all ages. You’ll get to witness the incredible work of the award-winning team of Abrahamse and Meyer Productions and their lead character Isabella Jane – both Fleur du Cap (FDC) winners – with their sixth and second FDC respectively. Isabella Jane (Alice)

Isabella Jane trained in contemporary singing with Desi van der Walt. Classical and Operatic singing with June Krauss. Her theatre credits include Star+Crossed (Bess), Evita (Mistress), Calling us Home, The Jungle Book (Joey), Alice in Wonderland (Alice), The Gingerbreadmen (Miss Pepper), The Sleeping Beauty (Fairy Flora), The Little Mermaid (Ariel), The Big Bad Musical. On Television she has appeared on SA’s Got Talent (2015) as runner up showcasing her skills as Ventriloquist/Singer/Comedienne with her sidekick, Rosie. Other appearances include: A Night with the Stars, Born to Perform, On the Night, Jonathan Roxmouth in Concert, Guest on Goliath Comedy Club (Comedy Central). She is also a guest vocalist with the Rand Symphony Orchestra, Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Awards include the coveted 2023 Fleur du Cap Best Actress in a Musical Award for her role as Bess in Star+Crossed and the Fleur du Cap Best Supporting Actress in a Musical Award for her role as the Mistress in Evita.

Fred Abrahamse

Fred Abrahamse received his training in Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town. His theatre credits as director and designer include: Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Othello, Richard III, Romeo & Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night’s Dream [four productions], Shakespeare’s R&J; Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, The Glass Menagerie, The Night of the Iguana, Kingdom of Earth, The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore, In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel, Stairs to the Roof, The Hotel Plays, One Arm; Steven Berkoff’s Decadence, Greek, The Secret Love Life of Ophelia; Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins, , Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms, David Hare’s The Vertical Hour, Kramer & Petersen’s District 6 – The Musical, Noël Coward’s Private Lives and Present Laughter, also Star+Crossed, Angels in America, Grease, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Bangbroek Mountain, In Briefs, Beautiful Thing, Epstein – The Man Who Made The Beatles. Marcel Meyer

(Composer/Lyricist/Designer)

Marcel Meyer received vocational training in Dramatic Art at the Pro Arte School and graduated Cum Laude with a B-Tech Degree in Musical Theatre from the Pretoria Technicon.

Theatre credits as actor and designer include Hamlet [Hamlet], Othello [Iago], Romeo & Juliet [Romeo], Richard III [Richard III], A Midsummer Night’s Dream [Oberon/Theseus], Antony & Cleopatra [Octavian Caesar], Much Ado About Nothing [Don John], Shakespeare’s R&J [Romeo], Dame Janet Suzman’s Hamlet [Rosencrantz]; Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, Sweet Bird of Youth, Kingdom of Earth, The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore, The Day on Which A Man Dies, One Arm, The Night of the Iguana, In the Bar of A Tokyo Hotel, The Glass Menagerie, The Hotel Plays; Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins [John Wilkes Booth], Noël Coward’s Private Lives [Elyot], Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under the Elms, Yukio Mishima’s The Lady Aoi, Mark Ravenhill’s Over There. He wrote the book and lyrics for Star+Crossed as well as the music and lyrics for In Briefs and History Girls. His theatre awards include eleven Fleur du Cap nominations for Best Costume design, winning the 2011 award for Richard III, the 2021 Set and Costume awards for The Lady Aoi and the 2023 Best Costume Award for Contested Bodies also the 2019 Naledi Award for Best Costume Design for Macbeth, St. Louis Theatre Circle Awards nominations for Best Set and Best Costume Design for Tennessee Williams’ Stairs to the Roof. Acting awards include the 2023 Best Performance by an Ensemble Award for Contested Bodies, 2019 Best Actor Naledi nomination for his performance in Macbeth. Fleur du Cap Nomination for Best Supporting Actor as the Gentleman Caller in The Glass Menagerie and a Best Actor nomination for his roles in Yukio Mishima’s The Lady Aoi.
