Great news: The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra has been given the go ahead by the Cape Town City Hall to bring in audiences to its concerts. There will be six concerts in the summer season. Four concerts will be on stage, live. The 5th concert, at The Endler Hall, may have an audience in attendance. This will be announced. All six concerts will be streamed on Quicket. When booking, ensure that you are booking for the format that you want. It can be confusing because the date of the live performance does not correlate with the streaming of the concert.

Who is conducting?
Four of the concerts will be conducted by Bernhard Gueller. Arjan Tien conducted the first concert in the Summer Season. It was filmed at the Cape Town City Hall on September 29, 2021 and is streaming Nov 4 – 8. Brandon Philips will be conducting the last concert in the series, on December 4 and that concert will be streaming from Dec 16 – 20.
Live concerts, with audience in attendance
The first live concert- The Allan Stephenson Memorial Concert is on October 21 at the City Hall at 6pm. Roxane Steffen will perform Stephenson’s Burlesque for Double Bass. The CPO will perform his Cape Town Overture, and the Symphony no 1 by Brahms. The second live concert, on November 4, at 7pm, features David Thompson in the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, followed by the Symphony No. 3 by Sibelius. The third concert, on November 11, also takes place at 7pm with award winning pianist Louis Nel, playing Liszt’s Totentanz and the CPO playing Fourth Symphony by Tchaikovsky. The concert on October 30 is at the Endler Hall and the start time is 3pm. Eric Dippenaar will perform a Harpsichord Concerto by William Hayes and an Organ Concerto by Handel. The programme will conclude with the First Orchestral Suite by Bach.
Proof of vaccination
The CPO has brought in POV – proof of vaccination – as a condition for entry for both venues – City Hall and the Endler Hall. Masks are mandatory and social distancing will be in place. The CapeRobyn applauds this move – keeping patrons, musicians and crew, as safe as possible, during the pandemic. As the concerts are all being filmed for streaming, there will be no late entry for patrons. Tickets will not be sold at the door of the City Hall concerts; so purchase in advance. There may be ticket sales at the Endler but this has not been confirmed.
Parking
For City Hall, there will be parking on the Grand Parade (entry from the Castle side) with security supplied by the German Shepherd Club.
