Journey of Imbewu Marimba Community
The Imbewu Marimba Community’s remarkable journey began in 2017 with the launch of their Marimba Explosion Program. This innovative initiative aimed to revive and celebrate indigenous practices through music and dance performance exhibitions. Over the years, the community has worked tirelessly to promote cultural heritage and empower local musicians, ultimately enriching the lives of the entire community.

Schools Marimba Bands Take Center Stage
In an exciting twist, school’s marimba bands consisting of talented pupils between the ages of 12 and 20 years will take turns to play the theme song at the festival! Imagine the energy and enthusiasm of these young musicians as they showcase their skills and perform alongside some of South Africa’s top artists. It’s going to be an unforgettable experience!
Celebrating Community and Heritage
The 4th Marimba Xplosion Festival is a heartfelt tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Langa Township. This year’s theme, “Zingqi neZandi of The South” (Rhythms and Sounds of The South), pays homage to the area’s rich musical history, while also commemorating 101 years since the establishment of Langa.
