Unity at Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts, December 22, 2024: Stunning concert, produced by Loukmaan Adams and featuring his brother Emo Adams (see clip https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMkrhbXgY/), The Black Ties, Jody Williams, Robin Pieters, Berry Trytsman, The Sean D Band. Mel Jones and Rasheeqah Karriem were the ebullient MCs. Loukmaan was the headline act.
It was an overcast afternoon, but the rain stayed away. The air was crisp and cool, no wind in the protected concert area at Kirstenbosch. Kirstenbosch has a no smoking policy (enforced by the concert marshals). I could “taste” that air. Who needs breath-work workshops with this air? The no-smoking rule, includes no vaping.
Loved the lighting and the shifting Unity banners, in multi-colours.
The ethos of the Unity concerts is to unite people across demographics in a safe space of music. I have to say that this was one of the most diverse crowds that I have seen at Kirstenbosch. It brought to mind the lines “harmony and understanding”, from Aquarius, from Hair the Musical. A shout-out to Loukmaan and his team for manifesting this vision into a reality.
