This year – 2020 – has been tough for everyone but particularly for those with young children. For most of the year, kids have been home schooled and now we are in lockdown level 1 and it is almost the festive season. It has been a year of hard work and we do need to enjoy the Cape Town summer – laugh, have fun and celebrate. It is thrilling to see GrandWest raise the curtain at The Roxy Revue Bar with a pantomime, with a Cape Town vibe. Covid safety protocols will be in place. The title of the panto is delicious – Cinderella & FrikaDella – makes one hungry. The plot involves a merciless mother and talent agent Patricia D and her social media “influencer” daughters, Frika and Della – who are limited in terms of talent. Cinderella is of course side-lined but she gets her opportunity to shine when a talent competition pops up.
Cinderella & FrikaDella is produced by All Star Entertainment – the production company headed up by Emo Adams and Olivia Gildenhuys. There is great excitement to be staging this panto, says Gildenhuys.“This is the first theatre show since lockdown [at GrandWest Roxy Revue Bar] which has added to the craziness. It makes us work that little bit harder at making all the dreams come true.”
Pantos are often raunchy but Cinderella & FrikaDella is family fare, so no worries when you take your youngsters to see this show. Gildenhuys: “This panto is suitable for the entire family. We are a family company which means that we want to involve the entire family.” Everyone pulled together to make this production a reality. She adds: “The title was thought out by Emo Adams. He is always able to come up with something that is unique and catchy. The writing of the panto has been a joint effort by Alistair, Emo and Rushney Ferguson. The synergy between them has been so amazing to watch. Costumes have been put together by Michelle Gildenhuys Adams from Styled. Set designing has been done by Emo Adams. He did a great job of the set building – every single nail – he knocked in himself. The entire production has been a project of love.”
There are only 80 seats available per show. Bookings highly advisable.
