Bookings are open for European Film Festival (SA) 2022 – October 13 to 23, 2022. It is great news that after two years of online streaming, during Covid, the 9th European Film Festival is back in cinemas in South Africa- a much anticipated return to theatres, offering the big screen experience in a collective setting. During the festival, each film will have a single screening at Ster-Kinekor’s The Zone in Rosebank, Johannesburg, and a single screening at The Labia in The Gardens, Cape Town. There are 16 films on at the festival. Most have won awards. Although the online screenings are free, it is advisable to book as there may be a limited number of tickets available – depending on the distributors. Read on for more from the organisers of #eurofilmfestsa:
Covid enforced severe challenges on cinemas countrywide, which have endured sustained periods of closure and then crippling seating restrictions. As film lovers we are grateful they survived, we are happy they are back and fully functioning again. The festival celebrates films and the making of films, we also honour the theatres that bring these films to life for us – support your local cinemas, enjoy the festival films on the big screen. The films are also being screened online – at no charge – but nothing beats the buzz of watching on the big screen.
