It was fab to attend the Smokie concert in Cape Town at GrandWest, last night, September 18, 2024.  The British group is celebrating its 45th year on the music boards and the tour to South Africa is part of its 45th Anniversary World Tour. The tour is happening September 18 -22.

Smokie opened with the romantic, I will Meet you at Midnight and wrapped with the encore, Living Next Door to Alice. They delivered all their hits. The audience was thrilled went wild and sang and danced along. It was a lot of fun. Perhaps too much for some people who got very happy on booze. See Alice video: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMhNy6uWx/

This is Smokie’s 13th tour to South Africa and one can see its enthusiastic fan base in South Africa. There were mostly older folk, with a sprinkling of younger faces. The band was joking about bringing the English weather to Cape Town  (there was rain yesterday and it was cold). After the SA tour, the band is heading to Denmark and then Australia “for sunshine”. They mused how people always tell them, about the memories which are ignited from the songs that they play. The audience was certainly getting into the music and loving it. The band is polished, with accomplished vocals, music, sound, sound and lighting.

The 2024 SA tour continues September 20 (Moreleta Campus in Pretoria), September, 21 (Madibaz Indoor Centre, Gqberha/Port Elizabeth) and September 22 (The Big Top Arena, Carnival City, East Rand).
