Exciting news is that, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Community Spectacular Gala Concert is happening, live on-stage, at Artscape- July 16, 2022 – the day before Mandela Day (July 17). The conductor is Brandon Phillips. The lineup is spectacular – totally wow. The concert is being headlined by The One Who Sings, Zolani Mahola and Katlego Maboe (master of ceremonies). Singers featured in this epic concert, include: Lynelle Kenned, Paxton Fielies, Sarah Theron and Corneil Muller. On the musical side, there is saxophonist Kagiso Ramosa; violinists David Bester and Corban Beukes. Zip Zap Circus is performing and the dance contingent, features Jazzart and Unmute. In 2020 and 2021, The CPO streamed, online, its Community Spectacular concert. In 2021, in tandem with streaming, there was also a live iteration, with some of the acts on stage, at Artscape as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, with a limited audience-in- attendance as per lockdown regulations. The 2022 Community Spectacular Gala is the first time since the pandemic hit us and we went into lockdowns, that the event is being staged in full thrust, as the sparkling, glittering event. With the recent scrapping of the mask mandate for indoor events and no limit on how many seats may be sold, hopefully, it will be full houses with Artscape packed for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Community Spectacular Gala Concert 2022. To reiterate, it is an epic lineup. Tickets are R150 and R135 for block bookings – 10 or more. No, that is not a miss-print. Thanks to the support from The City of Cape Town, tickets are priced reasonably. It is advisable to book. Read on for more. Info as supplied:

CPO’S COMMUNITY GALA
After a break of two years without public live performance on a large scale, another sparkling Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Community Spectacular concert is back on the boards at Artscape to a house without audience limits. Brandon Phillips will be on the podium with an array of South African entertainers headlined by The One Who Sings, Zolani Mahola, and Katlego Maboe who will also be the master of ceremonies. The concert will take place at Artscape on Saturday, July 16, at 8pm and is supported by the City of Cape Town.
Although the orchestra filmed a community gala in 2020 and a second one in 2021 which had a small audience as part of Artscape’s 50th anniversary celebrations, this, says the CPO’s CEO Louis Heyneman, is what we have been waiting for – a chance to raise the rafters with some of the most exciting artists we have in the city today. “With Zolani, Katlego and artists that span singing, dancing and circus, we are sure that Cape Town are joining us to celebrate the end of Covid with us.”
The community spectacular concerts which have been annual events, sometimes twice a year, for the last five years, are designed to show what a symphony orchestra can do to enhance the brilliance of these artists. The concerts are part of the CPO’s mandate to spread the message of good music as widely as possible, and giving a boost to the careers of many artists who are able to perform for the first time with a full symphony orchestra. This year the CPO is happy to present singers Lynelle Kenned, Paxton Fielies, Sarah Theron and Corneil Muller with saxophonist Kagiso Ramosa, violinists David Bester and Corban Beukes, the Zip Zap Circus, and dancers, Jazzart and Unmute. The director is Aviva Pelham, Stefan Lombard is musical director and Louis Heyneman the producer, a team that has successfully brought previous concerts to the public. Tickets for the concert are available from Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695 or at Computicket online or at Checkers outlets.
