Exciting solo theatre news is A Doll’s Life – Confessions of a Quarter Life Crisis. The solo show, written and performed by Micaela Jade Tucker, will be on in Cape Town, November 11-20, 2024 at Only Fools, 82 Regent Rd, Sea Point. Tucker says: “I wrote the show based on my personal experience after a hair raising and life changing visit to the gynaecologist that happened last year. I also go back and forth in time recalling other moments in my life and one could say it’s a travel through the ghosts of my ex boyfriend’s past. The show is an autobiographical play based on personal events that are of course, at times heightened for the theatrical purposes, but the nature of the show is raw, honest and vulnerable. It has a beginning, middle and end and so although it falls heavily in the comedic realm of storytelling, it is not stand up but rather a one woman play. It deals with sticky topics that you don’t want your mother-in-law to know about. I am currently 25, however I’ll be turning 26 over the run of my show (November 16) and so in essence it is a birthday gift to myself as I bid farewell to my quarter life crisis. This will be my first time performing the play in any capacity.”
Tucker grew up in Johannesburg and did her BA in Dramatic Arts at WITS. After graduation, she moved between Joburg and Cape Town. She relocated to Cape Town at the beginning of 2023 and furthered her studies at LAMTA. Read on for more about Tucker and director, Lara Toselli. Info as supplied:
