Throughout the pandemic and lockdowns, Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA), continued to stage productions of excellence at Theatre on The Bay. Every production was off the charts in terms of concept, staging and performance. It is no wonder that many LAMTA students are being snapped up and being cast in key roles, as musical theatre gets back on the boards in South Africa. LAMTA’s end of the year production, BEING STEVE, is a tribute to musical theatre greats -Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz and Stephen Flaherty. It is advisable to book as LAMTA shows sell out – and deservedly so. LAMTA may be a student academy but the shows are what one would expect on the professional stage. There are only 11 performances of BEING STEVE . Read on for more. Info as supplied:

BEING STEVE’

What do Sondheim, Schwartz and Flaherty have in common?

Well, they all share the same first name, but what is more binding is their illustrious Broadway careers as composers and lyricists of some of the world’s most beloved and award winning musicals!
With works spanning over many decades, Musical Theatre would not be the same without the genius of Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, and Stephen Flaherty. Between them, the three “Steves”, have either composed the music for or written the lyrics to such mega-hit musicals as Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods, Sunday In The Park With George, Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, Anastasia, Once On This Island and Ragtime to name just a few.

For its final production of the year, the Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy (LAMTA) is excited to present a tribute to three Broadway legends that will renew your faith in music and the performing arts in a way that only the music of Sondheim, Schwartz and Flaherty can.
