Live on stage: Spring Season, The Masque, Cape Town- three weekend season

Live theatre is back at The Masque – from this weekend – September 25 and 26, 2020. It is spring and the Heritage Day weekend so get to Muizenberg and enjoy the vibe of being in a theatre again. No streaming anxiety- amazing. The season runs until the weekend of October 9-11. The season kicks off with Godfrey Johnson’s new cabaret- InsanitIzed. The show is “a lighthearted look at a personal journey… stories and songs of love and sobriety.” The award winning Johnson is always a joy to watch. He is classically trained, witty and utterly entertaining. See what he has been cooking up in lockdown.

The Masque Spring season includes theatre geared for the small fry, garden theatre in the fynbos (see below) and two theatre premieres, Kvetch/Ndisa Zilile. The spring season wraps up with extra)ordinary, (un)usual– hybrid theatre-film- presented by F Creations.

Masque Theatre Spring 2020 Programme:

October 2,3, 4: Fun n Games – presented by Ronnés Murder Mysteries. Find out who believed Franco Valentino’s dresses were worth killing for – uhhm..was it you??. “Interactive and immersive, no acting experience required.” 6.30-8.30pm. Tickets to be advised.

October 3: Saturday afternoon session with Jungle Theatre’s playful Mantis and the Bee – geared for ages 6 to 10 years. Tickets to be advised.

For creative kids “who would like a taster of the Muizenberg Drama Club”, join the interactive, free workshop Healthy Bird – for 20 minutes of drama. Parents welcome. Booking essential.

October 3: Evening of Saturday October 3- laughs with the Second Liners troupe of improvised comedy. Socially distanced, of course.  Turn it into a double bill. Take part in  the Masque Theatre’s famous Karaoke evening. “Only sing if you want to (but you know you want to…)” Tickets to be advised.

October 9-11: A new production- amazing- in the time of Covid, director Bongani Titana and the Ubizo Theatre Company present Kvetch/Ndisa Zilile – a devised theatre piece “sharing the story of the grievance of the families of three mine workers, who were trapped underground in the Lily Mine Tragedy in 2016.” Tickets to be advised.

October 11: The first screening of a theatre/film creation by F Productions: (extra)ordinary, (un)usual. This is innovative production is described as hybrid theatre-film and is made up of a “selection of monologues performed by six actors, each one telling the story of a unique individual.”  2-3.30pm. Tickets to be advised.

Sundays in the garden: The Masque invites people to visit the Muizenberg Community Garden, for talks and inspiration. The garden has created by Lush n Local, the team working “with herbs spirals and fynbos wind breaks”. The garden will be open from 2pm on Sundays. From 3.30pm, there will be talks on edible weeds and other plant related themes, music and poetry. A perfect setting for Covid-19 times.
