Fabulous news is that the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing live to audiences-in-attendance at the City Hall, with its Summer Symphony Festival 2022. Concert one is on January 20. Concert 2 is on January 27 and concert 3 is on February 3. All three concerts start at 6pm and will be conducted by principal guest conductor Bernhard Gueller.

Concert 1, January 20, features David Juritz (violin) in the Violin Concert No. 5 in A “Turkish” by Mozart and Zorada Temmingh (organ) in the Organ Symphony by Saint-Saȅns. The concert will start with a performance of Nimrod from Elgar’s Enigma Variations – “to honour those who have lost their lives during the pandemic”.  The second concert, on January 27, features marimba specialist Magdalena de Vries in Allan Stephenson’s Toccata Exotica (1984) for marimba and orchestra.  Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony with expanded strings section, will complete the programme.  The third concert on February 18, features Suzanne Martens (violin), Petrus Coetzee (viola) in the Sinfonia concertante in E flat by Mozart, with Nielson’s Symphony No. 2, Op. 16 “The Four Temperaments” as the main work.
