Preview: LAMTA’s Come Together/The Beatles Covered /Uncovered- exuberant, energetic, and entertaining dance production -set to music of the Fab Four- on at Theatre on the Bay – June 15- 25, 2022

 “What makes the Beatles’ songs so timeless? And what has made so many artists like Frank Sinatra, McFly, Michael Bublé, and Katy Perry cover their work?” This question spurred LAMTA to create its 2022 dance production, COME TOGETHER – The Beatles Covered /Uncovered, using diverse covers of the Beatles. By using well known covers and versions that may not be familiar to the public at large, the team is presenting an exciting platform to showcase the talents of its students at LAMTA (Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy) in Camps Bay. Instead of simply presenting a collage of Beatles songs, set to dance, they are playing with the idea of the music being covered by recording artists. In this “exuberant, energetic, and entertaining dance production”, LAMTA is uncovering and connecting with the music, lyrics and images in the songs. COME TOGETHER – The Beatles Covered /Uncovered, is a homage through original dance to the Beatles and artists who in covering their music, who have revealed additional elements which may have been not considered by the Beatles. The audience is in for a surprise with the music, accompanying the dance. For instance, one of the songs has been arranged by a student, Leah Mari, with guidance from Anton Luitingh and she performs the song. The original choreography has been conceived by top choreographers in the industry. Some are members of staff at LAMTA. It is an awesome list of choreographers: Michelle Reid, Jared Schaedler, Hope Maimane, Natalie Fisher, Robyn van Wyk, Brigitte Reeve Taylor, Ashley Searle, Duane Alexander, Ananda Fuchs, Figure of 8 Dance Collective, Tamryn Oates, Simone Neethling, Anna Olivier and Naoline Quinzin. LAMTA is again delighted to welcome some of South Africa’s top choreography talents like Michelle Reid, Jared Schaedler and Hope Maimane, as well as our incredible LAMTA dance faculty members Natalie Fisher, Robyn van Wyk, Brigitte Reeve Taylor, Ashley Searle and Duane Alexander who will be working with our students to bring the stories behind some of the Fab Four’s greatest works, to life.

Besides the exciting original choreography mentioned above, COME TOGETHER adds another creative perspective into the music of the Beatles, as the songs in the show are all covers performed by famous (and some not-so-famous) artists, but all incredible versions of songs that were originally performed by a band who are arguably the most successful act of the 20^th century.

We are thrilled to once again present live theatre featuring 34 wonderful LAMTA talents. COME TOGETHER features a diverse selection of dance genres including contemporary, tap and commercial and will undoubtedly entertain audience of all ages. Safety at the theatre

We are very excited to be able to share a safe and live theatre experience with you all at the Theatre on Bay with strict Covid safety protocols in place. Mandatory masks and socially distanced seating as per government capacity regulations is in effect in addition to regular sanitising of the venue and health screening upon entrance to the Theatre.
