Shark Tank South Africa set to return to SA TV screens with a second season in early 2021

Shark Tank, the critically acclaimed and multi-Emmy® Award-winning reality show that has reinvigorated entrepreneurship in America, now returns to African shores.

The new season of the exhilarating TV show, Shark Tank South Africa, is proudly brought to you by Beryl Group – a leading Pan-African investment company with a proven track record in diversified investments and key strategic holdings.

Scouted by the Beryl Group – the all new line-up of ‘Sharks’ who are tough, self-made, multimillionaire and billionaire tycoons – will commence their search in early 2021 to invest in the best businesses and products that South Africa and Africa has to offer.

The Sharks will once again give people from all walks of life the chance to chase the ultimate entrepreneurship-dream and potentially secure business deals that could make them millionaires.

When asked why they have chosen to invest in entrepreneurship, Beryl Group Chairman, Mr. Neverl Kambasha said: “We have been investing in entrepreneurs for a significant amount of time. There’s no doubt that Africa is the next frontier, and with that the driving force of changing the economic landscape on the continent, will be entrepreneurs. The possibilities of unearthing innovation, creativity and uncovering the ‘next big thing’ are endless hence we deemed it necessary to further invest in entrepreneurship. We look forward to seeing potential unleashed.”

This, now well-known ‘structured reality programme’, Shark Tank, started as Dragons’ Den and was originally created in Japan by NTV in 2001. Four years later it was produced in the UK by BBC2 and has since been on air for over a decade.

Rolled out in various formats, spanning 31 countries, Dragons’ Den is known as ‘The World’s Number One Business Reality Show’. Shark Tank is a variation of Dragon’s Den, where the biggest difference is the set and use of VT (pre-recorded) footage. What this really means is that with Shark Tank, there is a greater focus on the entrepreneurial journey and that is what it is all about.

We know that Dragon’s Den had a turn in South Africa; Shark Tank had a season here. And now, this acclaimed, thrilling and factual entrepreneurship-focused entertainment show, Shark Tank South Africa, is returning for an all new second season.

Season 2 of the hit-reality TV show is expected to be bigger and better than before, and above all, making greater impact by changing the narrative of the African Entrepreneur, which is part and parcel of Beryl Group’s investment strategy when it comes to entrepreneurship.

As one of the most watched shows on American television, the show has ignited a wave of new product development, and unearthed the potential of many entrepreneurs – there’s no doubt that the entrepreneurial tidal wave will do the same in South Africa and beyond!

The show introduces audiences to entrepreneurs who could potentially be ‘the next big thing’ or have an idea, invention, product or service that is innovative and ground-breaking. Entrepreneurs are given the opportunity to pitch their business to a panel of ‘Sharks’ who will potentially invest through equity in the business, and help the entrepreneurs navigate the business seas.

Make no mistake about it, this is not a case of ‘hook, line and sinker’, the ‘Sharks’ are seasoned business people with a knack for identifying businesses that could be lucrative through their investment.

Current ‘Sharks’, as earmarked Beryl Group, boast South African billionaire, Mr. Quinton van der Burgh; UN Global Award Honoree, Dr. Jasmine Pega; Serial Entrepreneur Mr. Lebo Gunguluza; and Tech-Entrepreneur and Guru, Ms. Prashanthi Akaloo.

A fifth Shark – Entrepreneur Extraordinaire and Investor – to be revealed soon. With this calibre and variety of ‘Sharks’ in the Tank, it’s going to be an entrepreneurial tsunami.

Will the entrepreneurs stay afloat? Will they sink, or swim? Will they withstand the Shark bite? How will they fare in the ‘Shank Tank’? There’s only one way to find out!

Shark Tank South Africa is officially here, so be on the look-out as we go live 2021! The year of the #SharkTankSA #AfricanEntrepreneur
