A Tribute to Memory, Music, and District Six
From Hanover Street will be staged at the Artscape Opera House from February 10-15 2026, during the period that remembers the forced removals from District Six, which began on February 11, 1966.
The production is a tribute — to the people, the streets, the homes, and the community that were torn apart. It exists to remember, to reflect, and to ensure the injustices of the past are never repeated.
This year, David Kramer is joined by Alistair Izobell, Jody Abrahams, Loukmaan Adams, and Emo Adams as producers, stepping forward to carry this story with care and commitment. Their work honours the legacy of District Six, bringing together decades of experience in music, theatre, and storytelling, and a deep connection to the city and its history.
From Hanover Street is a concert performance with a live band, singers and dancers, capturing the life that once thrived in District Six — the music, the laughter, the everyday moments — and contrasts it with the disruption caused by forced removals. It asks audiences to witness the truth of what happened, to listen, and to remember.
